LC-MS based lipidomics and multiomics

The combination of liquid chromatography (LC) with high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) is ideally suited for multimolecular chemical analysis, as LC-HRMS enables identification and quantification by retention time, accurate mass and fragmentation pattern of hundreds to thousands of compounds in parallel. LC-HRMS based “omics”-strategies are extremely powerful due to their unrivaled potential to monitor an entire set of molecules in order to follow cellular metabolism and perturbations.

We develop new strategies to increase multimolecular information from one sample using sequential extraction, isotope dilution, novel online LC-HRMS based workflows (combination of RP and HILIC), as well as network analysis and data integration strategies. These innovative lipidomics/multiomics workflows can be used for systems biology approaches, e.g. to follow stem cell differentiation into fat cells.
