Single cell metabolomics
Single cell metabolomics aims at analyzing the entire set of metabolites present in one cell. Classical metabolomics approaches rely on the analysis of a high cell number, thereby obtaining an average instead of metabolic information of the individual cell. The individual metabolic state of single cells could, however, offer interesting biological insights.
The Koellensperger group works on novel analytical setups to tackle the challenge of measuring metabolite information in one cell, including automatization of sample extraction, downscaling of input sample amounts and suitable LC-MS approaches.
Current topics:
- Automatic sample preparation in metabolomics
- Downscaling of sample amounts by nano-flow liquid chromatography and high-resolution mass spectrometry
