Metallomics

Metallomics aims at elucidating the identity, distribution, dynamics and role of metals and metalloids in biological systems, as well as their impact on these. To address these questions, the Koellensperger group develops analytical strategies based on the combination of flow injection, liquid chromatography and laser ablation systems to inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).  We aim at developing accurate, robust and traceable quantification methods for (ultra)trace elements and metalloproteins in biological and environmental samples. In addition, we investigate the elemental distribution in tumors and tumor spheroid sections using laser ablation ICP-MS as well as in single cells.
